Typefaces

For the digital typeface, I will be beginning with the font 'swiss condensed bold'. I am planning to remove and add rectangles from each of the letters and I will be making it look technological. My plan is to do this on adobe photoshop, but I might check out fonstruct.com as well. I, potentially, will call this typeface 'static'. That is not set in stone.

For the handwritten one, I will be doing it in pencil, on paper. I plan on using a ruler and making it all very linear and I am most likely going to be using a lot of lines with it. Then again, I may make it more of a cursive font; more of a flowing type.

For the structural type, I am going to try out using ink and water, or I may use a hose or two to shape it out. We'll see, I haven't quite decided what one to do yet, and I still may think of a better one and use that.

Helvetica

I enjoyed parts of the movie. Other parts bored me. I learned from this movie that type is important. There is sometimes a 'wrong' font. There is sometimes a 'right' font. It all depends on the situation. I have been knowledgeable of helvetica for a while. I also saw this movie during freshman year and since then, I have payed much more attention to fonts. I think that if you are going to have to do anything at all with graphic design, you need to know the importance of fonts. You need to know that different type can change the meaning of something. Like the jeans reference, if it says 'buy these jeans' in a grungy font, they are probably ripped or faded. If it says it in helvetica, it could be outside of gap. I believe that type face is important and I think that this movie helped get that point across.
